#FuelYourAwesomeness with Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powders

July 6, 2016

Today on the Running Coaches’ Corner, I want to talk about nutrition. I know I’ve talked about nutrition before but it’s such an important topic, especially for athletes. Today’s topic of discussion? Protein powders.

Protein Powders: Whey, Casein, Plant-Based

This post is sponsored by Bob’s Red Mill. All recipes, content, and opinions are my own.

Athletes require more protein than the average person. The body of the athlete becomes damaged microscopically — most of the time anyway — and needs the additional proteins to rebuild and grow. One of the easiest ways to get more protein is through a quality protein powder.

Protein is of particular interest to me, in fact, because I’ve been on a “cleanse” of sort as of late. I’ve recently cut out refined sugars, most oils, gluten (when possible), and whey and casein. Traditional protein powders are either whey or casein based, and both are not good for me. Luckily there are plant-based options available.

Around the time when I decided to go au natural, a phenomenal package of goodness arrived on my doorstep. I happily tore open the packaging to find four different flavors of Bob’s Red Mill protein powders. This package certainly came at a serendipitous time.

Bob’s Red Mill protein powders are pea protein based. The “flavor” I’m enjoying most so far is the Protein & Fiber powder. It’s unflavored and unsweetened, which means I don’t have to worry about added sugars, gluten, whey or casein, or strange oils and ingredients lurking behind unpronounceable words. Plus, it easily mixes into just about anything. I’ve made energy balls, smoothies, and even added it to baked goods for a little extra protein kick.

I’ve got a few recipes in the making, and I’ll certainly share them with you in the coming weeks. For now I’m going to focus on what makes the Bob’s Red Mill protein powders so great — they’re vegan, gluten-free, and they contain chia, probiotics, and Omega-3s.

I highly recommend trying out some of this protein powder. There are four flavors to choose from: Chai, Vanilla, Chocolate and Protein & Fiber. Click here for a coupon to save $1!
