I’ve been eyeing different kinds of running shoes for a while. Up until recently, I was a one-brand kind of girl. But I’ve begun to switch it up lately, and so far I’ve been happy with my choices. As Lisa (of Running Out of Wine) mentioned a few days ago, sometimes changing shoes and breaking from your “norm” is liberating. And if money were no object… well I think it’s fair to say we’d all have a lot more running shoes! Finding the right pair of running shoes is vital. If you buy a pair of uncomfy shoes that don’t fit you properly, you’ll have a few issues whilst you’re running.
Five Running Shoes I Really Want to Try
1. Altra Lone Peak NeoShell
Once upon a time, I had a pair of red Nike running shoes. I have no idea what they were. This was long before I was a runner. But I had these red Nike running shoes and they were Gore-Tex. They were amazing, but they didn’t fit my foot that well. But I loved them regardless. I’ve actually been on the hunt for similar shoes and I think I may have found what I’ve been searching for all these years in the Altra Lone Peak NeoShell. So yeah, the Altra Lone Peak NeoShell is at the top of my running shoe wish list. Zero drop, waterproof, breathable — what’s not to love?
2. Luna Oso
Ever since I read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, I’ve been intrigued by the barefoot running movement. I know several people who love and swear by their Luna running sandals. I’m not sure I’m ready to take the leap but when I do, I’d love to try out the Luna Oso’s.
3. Hoka One One Tracer
Another shoe I would love to try out is the Hoka One One Tracer. First, I love the colors. (Always a win in my book — because fashion first! Right..?) But more importantly, I’m intrigued by this whole concept of max cushioning. I tried on a pair of Hokas once, though, and they just didn’t fit my foot. It was unfortunate because I was prepared to drop a small fortune on a pair of magical new shoes, but it wasn’t meant to be. So when it’s time for me to try on a pair again, I’ll give Hokas another shot.
4. Brooks T7 Racer
Okay so I probably won’t actually try these because a) they’re unisex and I’m not sure how my small-ish feet would respond to the fit and b) even Brooks says most people can’t wear them for marathons. Not that I would be wearing them for a marathon. I don’t know. Maybe they could be my fun shoes and only wear them on track days? I gotta think about this… They definitely do look fun.
5. Pearl Izumi N1 v2
I’ve heard amazing things about Pearl Izumi running shoes. I’d like to get in a pair if I can, especially the N1 V2. I’m not sure about the toe-box situation, though, and I definitely need a wide toe-box (as evidenced by the loss of my toenail last spring. RIP little fella.) I definitely want to try these on in person. I’ve heard great things!
As you can see, I have a hefty list of shoes I need to try. Better start saving my pennies.
