Fighting Inflammation, National Best Friends Day, and Fun with Goats
It’s been a crazy week, y’all. I’m making some major changes to my diet. Let’s start there.
My family has a deep history of inflammatory diseases. Heart disease, Crohn’s, colitis, psoriasis, Alzheimer’s — so much bad stuff and all linked to inflammation. Now, there are herbal remedies out there that can really help to reduce inflammation, such as every day optimal CBD which we use when we can, but your diet is also a huge contributory factor that can affect it. As such, I’m making some major changes in the way my family eats and views food. Due to my family history with so many diseases I’ve also been looking at various life insurance policies for those that suffer from long term diseases such as Crohn’s and others, I found some life insurance providers such as these if you click here that could offer me and my family members with specialized insurance policies. So that’s a positive change for us too! As for our diet, we got fairly lax this year with what we were eating and feeding our kids, and now we’re taking back the control. No more convenience eating prepackaged foods, sugar cereals, other such garbage. I signed us up for a farm share again this year even though I said I wouldn’t after last year because we signed up for a share too big for our family. Today is our first pickup of the season and I’m already really excited to cook again! Mmmm, beets…!
I’m cutting out sugar and adding in lots of anti-inflammatory foods. Check out more of why sugar is evil in this post. It’s been an interesting transition so far and there will be a lot more changes but it’s good. I need to do this. I’m experiencing some joint issues and the sooner I can get this under control, the better. I’ve been concocting some awesome new recipes to fit my new diet, so watch for those coming soon! I discovered a lot of information when looking for anti-inflammatory foods I could eat. I never knew there were so many uses for turmeric powder! It’s not just anti-inflammatory. I’m looking forward to all the new foods I’ll be incorporating into my diet, they’re pretty delicious. If you’re not sure what foods are anti-inflammatory, and which ones are causing unhealthy inflammation, then check out Lifespark’s article on inflammatory foods you should do your best to avoid.
On an unrelated note, yesterday was National Best Friends Day. First, what’s up with all the national blah blah blah days? There’re way too many. It’s ridiculous. And who thinks them up anyway? Can I make a National Rachel is Awesome Day? Would you guys celebrate with me? Back to the point second, while we were taking our dogs for a walk yesterday my daughter says, “mommy, you’re my best running friend.”
ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THE CUTENESS?! How adorable is that?! This girl just melts my heart and then subsequently raises my blood pressure moments later but we won’t talk about that.
Also on Wednesday, I took my little peeps to see one of my very best friends from high school. He’s the barn manager at Hiram House Camp (yes! that is the same place as Race N Taste! Great observation.). They don’t have campers yet (still setting up for the summer) so we got to stop by and say hi. He showed Boo and Little Bee all the horses, plus the donkeys and goats. The goats were hilarious. They weren’t much bigger than our puppy and ran away just like she does. The donkeys were similarly hilarious. I should have taken a video of them hee-hawing. It s crazy how loud they get!
Speaking of Race N Taste did you enter to win my giveaway? No? Head over there now and do it!
That’s all from here today, peeps. Peace out!
