Happy Friday and Happy Memorial Day weekend! This weekend is a three-day weekend for most people. As such, there are lots of races going on, a lot of time to spend outdoors with family and friends, and if you’re not racing, hopefully some extra time to run this weekend.
Today I want to share why I love being a fit mom. There are so many things I love about it that I can’t list it all here, so I’ll give you the top five.
Five Things I Love About Being a Fit Mom
1. I love that my daughter wants to “run two miles” everywhere she goes. On Thursday after our run she insisted on doing her own run around the parking lot. The fireman thought it was pretty funny. I love that my daughter loves stroller running. She definitely gets bored at times, but it’s fun to have a running buddy and listen to loud music every now and again. Plus when she stroller runs with me that means I don’t have to wake up so early to run alone. Win!
2. I love that my son loves playing outside. He’s so busy and active and although I’m sure that’s mostly his personality, he loves playing in the woods, playing sports, riding his bike, and of course, running. We have so much in common and it’s so fun to play and adventure with him.
3. I love that my kids “drop and give me 10” on their own. In a doctor’s office waiting room. (Because that’s not embarrassing or anything.) At least they did that and didn’t run around the waiting room screaming. Could’ve been worse.
4. I love that my kids would rather be outside being active than sitting inside playing video games, watching TV, or staring at an iPad. We don’t own an iPad if you can believe it — maybe the only American family without one, I dunno. My kids love swimming, imagining, going for nature walks and hikes, and this summer I’ll give them a go at canoeing. It’s refreshing to have little buddies that love doing all the things I love to do.
5. More than anything, I love being a fit mom because I love staying active with my kids. I love setting the best example I can of being healthy and active. I hope the example I’m setting now carries over to their adolescence and adulthood, and they never forget how important it is to be active, take care of your body, and enjoy life. Life’s too short for anything but the best and I want to make sure I’m leaving a legacy of great things for them, even if it is just hiking in the woods or going for a stroller run down the street.
I am so thankful for having the time to spend with my kids and getting outside with them. I’ve had so much help from people in order to get to this point, especially my friend who became a Cultural Care Au Pair who has a lot of experience with children. She told me how to make time for my kids, my husband and my fitness. Thank you to everyone who has helped me.
Hopefully you have some meaningful celebrations planned for the weekend. We’ll be hitting up a festival, hanging with some friends, and going to a special Memorial Day parade. It’s our favorite area parade and we’ve been going for years, so we’re looking forward to it again this year.
Happy weekend!
