Last week my training went really, really well. I was very pleased with my workouts and progress. The weather was perfect, too. This week I’m starting the week off sick (yay, cold…) so I’m not entirely sure what’s gonna happen but I’m hoping for the best.
Half Marathon Training: Week 11
Tuesday – 6 miles
Tuesday started out pretty rough. I was just mentally not in it. Know what I mean? I feel like some runs just happen and they’re awesome, and others you have to really work for. This was one of those runs and I had a hard time getting into it.
My Achilles was hurting for some reason and by mile 3 I was ready to throw in the towel and head home. But I stopped, looked around, and gave myself a pep talk. When I started running again my Achilles didn’t hurt and I just felt good. I ended up having a great run.
Wednesday – 7.18 miles
I had an early morning meeting on Wednesday so I ended up running a double. My first run was a 4-miler and it went pretty well.
My second run was with my daughter in the stroller. I felt like it was really difficult, as I always do, but when I looked back at my splits I saw that I actually ran with the stroller faster than I had run solo a few hours earlier. It boggles the mind!
Thursday – 5 miles
Another really kick-ass run for me on Thursday. I made mention to my coach that the warm weather is really doing me some good. When I’m forced to run in the cold, I’m slow as heck, totally negative, and it’s really just not fun for me. But when it’s nice out — watch out, world! I can’t wait for shorts and tank weather.
Saturday – 12 miles
So the current germ-fest started here on Friday night. Which means my daughter was literally up every hour crying. It happens every time she gets a cold. She’s literally the worst sick person on the planet. I don’t know how, but she’s got me beat which is a feat in itself because I used to hold the world record for being the World’s Worst Sick Person. I don’t hold a candle to her!
Suffice it to say, I was wiped for my 12 on Saturday. Up late cleaning after Passover and then up all night with Little Bee was just crazy. But I got out there and I managed to have a fairly good run all things considered. I met Noemi for three miles in the middle. I toured her around my old stomping grounds, and then I headed back home.
I don’t know how I plan on running anything past 13 miles, guys. When I got home, my toes and knees were killing me. I also chafed pretty badly under my arms because I didn’t have my pack cinched tightly enough. Rookie mistake that I’m still paying for. Whomp whomp. After my 12-miler, I was totally ready to do nothing.
Sunday – 4.74 miles
On Sunday I met up with my 5K ladies, who are doing AMAZING! I’m so darn proud of them! Every week they’re stronger, fitter, and happier. It’s such a rewarding experience coaching them.
After our practice, I headed out into the beautiful sunshine to get in 3 miles. It was tough to start after all the lunges and squats (again) but it was a nice little jog through the park. I’m glad I ran again on Sunday.
Here I am now not feeling awesome and debating how my week will shake out. I think I might have to skip a run to give myself another day to recuperate. I won’t miss anything in terms of fitness so it’s not that big of a deal. But still. This girl likes to stick to the schedule!
I hope you’re avoiding the end-of-winter germies. I hear there are quite a few making the rounds. Wash those hands, folks. Stay healthy!
