I had a hella busy weekend, y’all. As I’m sure you know, my husband and I traveled to Bloomington, IN for my half marathon – the Hoosier Half. We had a great time and I’ve been wanting to tell you guys about it. And since today’s Thursday, and Thursdays are for thinking out loud, I’m going to tell you all about it today. [Queue happy dance.]
B-Town
Our drive to Indiana was exhausting and uneventful. I needed a little running mojo to get pumped up for the race, so I admired my Motivational Wrap on the ride.
After we checked in to our hotel we toured around town to see what had changed and what remained the same. Both of our houses looked the same. Most of the town did, actually.
A HUGE bummer though — the place where we worked and met was GONE!!! The entire building had been demo’ed and rebuilt. Not a trace of our pizza place was left. Such a huge bummer. Whomp whomp.
Fortunately Griffy Lake looked the same. Griffy Lake was one of my favorite places to go in B-town – and it still is! I used to go canoeing there with my friends when it was warm, and hiking there with my dog when it was cool.
Now apparently I do weird stuff like this:
Being back in Bloomington makes me feel equal parts young and old. Young because of all the memories and old because, well, I’m old. At least by college standards.
Eating all the Food
Bloomington has some of the best food ever. And no trip is complete without a stop at Trojan Horse and Nick’s English Hut. I needed something tame for dinner on Friday so we hit Trojan Horse first.
The weather on race day was insanely cold. Not like, “this is good running weather” cold. It was in the teens. Totally not okay for April.
For post race lunch we hit Upland. Because craft beer. And salad. Hey — gotta replenish all those lost nutrients from the race!
And for dinner OF COURSE we had to head to Nick’s.
For those IU grads or anyone familiar with Nick’s — no, we did not play Sink the Biz. Mostly because there’s no way either of us could hang. We’re waaaaaay out of practice!
So instead we just enjoyed our pizza and beer and chatted with our friend, Jason. Shhhh… the old folks have arrived…
There was definitely a lot of eating on this trip — my first time at Runcible Spoon was ah-maze-ing.
Sadly our time in B-town came to an end and we headed home. Our fun was overshadowed by an unfortunate series of events at home, which included our puppy eating two other dogs’ food while we were gone. I’m sure you can imagine the resulting carpet stains. Ick. I’ll spare you pictures here. Mostly because I didn’t take any. Haha.
I managed to gain three pounds in two days. Either I’m not eating enough at home or I ate too much while we were away. Right now I’m in the “ate too much” camp and I’m actively working on a cleanse that consists of eating no meat and lots of salad.
Running in the Cold
I’ve been tired and unmotivated lately and I finally realized why. I was blaming the dark mornings before, but it turns out it’s because it’s been so cold. I really don’t like running in the cold. Sun or not, it sucks.
Speaking of weather…
Do you SEE those temps?! I can’t wait for long run Saturday and 5K training on Sunday! Wahooooo!!!
xo
