The Best Breweries in the CLE

March 11, 2016

HAPPY FREAKING FRIDAY!!! I’m ecstatic it’s the weekend. So much craziness in one week. I need a break. I can’t wait to #runallthemiles and #runalltheraces. Okay, so one race. But even so! I’m really looking forward to my first 10K ever on Sunday. Should be fun!

A few weeks ago I posted the Best Places to Eat in the CLE. A lot of you really wanted to hear about the best brewpubs in Cleveland also, so that’s what I’m sharing today. Now, I must warn you. I’m old and out of touch with my fun, younger, more hip-self so I had to enlist the help of some friends to fill me in on some of the better breweries we have in our area. I’m familiar with a few but not a lot.

So with some help from my friends and without further ado, here are the top five best breweries in Cleveland!

5 Best Breweries in Cleveland

1. Great Lakes Brewery

One of the more known breweries in Cleveland is Great Lakes Brewery. It is also among the best of the best in the CLE. There are so many fantastic, award winning brews to choose from, and a lot on tap that aren’t available anywhere else. The atmosphere at Great Lakes is fairly laid back. Plus the food is good, too. If you’re planning a trip to Cleveland, check in to booking a brewery tour. It’s a great night out but book well in advance because tours fill up quickly.

2. Platform Beer Co.

Okay so this one I’ve never been to. But my friend Gretchen says it’s one of the best! I take her word for it. She and her husband have good taste in brews. They’re legit people. (Thanks, Gretchen!)

3. The BottleHouse Brewing Company

BottleHouse is one of my all-time favorite places. Not for the beer and not for the food. But for the atmosphere. It’s so laid back. Think coffee house meets jazz lounge with a mix of hops and barley. Text your friends, tell ’em what time to be there, and pick your favorite board game from the game shelf and hang out for hours! It’s great fun. Don’t get me wrong, the beer is great, too. But if you’re looking for a supremely chill brewery to relax and actually be able to hear your friends, BottleHouse is the place for you.

4. Fat Head’s Brewery

Fat Head’s Brewery is another one I’ve never been to. But it comes highly recommended from my friend and fellow Cleveland Marathon ambassador, Pam.  I trust Pam’s judgement on this one. Apparently this place has a bit of a cult following among craft beer enthusiasts. I can’t believe I haven’t been there yet. I can’t wait to check it out for myself.

5. Nano Brew Cleveland

Nano Brew Cleveland is yet another brewery I’ve never been to! What is going on?! Looks like I need to get out more. Nano comes recommended by my girl, Julie. (You know Julie from all my running adventures!) Nano Brew Cleveland is located in Ohio City, which is an awesome little neighborhood in the Cleve. If you’re coming to visit, definitely add it to your list of places to check out.

And one for good luck… because the whole Irish thing…

6. Willoughby Brewing Co.

Willoughby Brewing Co., located in Willoughby, OH, is a hopping place. Live music, a huge venue, and beer lovers of all walks of life converge on this popular hotspot. Willoughby Brewing is a really fun place to go, particularly if you dig larger crowds and high energy venues.
