Happy Christmas Eve Day! I hope y’all have wrapped, shopped, baked, and cooked your hearts out and are ready to take on the big eve and day!
I can’t believe this year is already coming to an end. In regular humanspeak, that just means New Year’s Eve is coming up. But in runnerspeak, the end of the year typically signifies the beginning of training season is just around the corner. It’s been tough to narrow down races for 2016, and for the most part they’re still largely unchosen. But there are three that are on my list so far.
Come March, I’ll be participating in the brand new Kiss Me I’m Irish 5K/10K/10K Relay. It’s gonna be a fun race. I’m not entirely sure which event I’ll be running, but I’ll have some clients running this race, which will make it even more awesome than it already will be. I’m really excited for them.
Next up will be the Hoosier Half Marathon in Bloomington, IN. This one I’m extremely excited about for so many reasons. First, it’s my alma mater. A trip back to B-town is amazing in and of itself, and now I get to run it, too — hills and all! Yeehaw! Another reason for the excitement is because I’ll be reuniting with some of my all-time favorite running buddies. I’ve had the privilege to meet some amazing people in my running life and most of them live in the greater Louisville, KY area. It will be great to see them again in 2016. Bonus? Two of my clients will be running it, too! Did I mention the post-race party? It’ll be awesome!
This next race is a biggie… in June I’ll be taking on the Grand Teton Half Marathon. I’m STOKED for this race. I signed up on a whim because I’ve never been to the Tetons and it seemed like an amazing excuse for an epic adventure. I have zero plans on racing this one. I’m going to be one of those super annoying people who stops every 5 minutes to take photos. I’ll be running with my selfie stick. BELIEVE IT. (Note to self: buy a selfie stick.) We’re not entirely sure the logistics of this adventure except that we’re driving, which according to my friend Mr. Google, will take approximately 27 hours. Thankfully my husband and I are road warriors. Unfortunately our kids may not be so much… TBD on the travel plans for that one. Either way, I’m pumped!
There are a ton more races I’m considering adding to my 2016 race calendar. Some half marathons, several 5Ks — perhaps even another marathon now that I’m finally over the disaster of 2015. I’m so looking forward to all the great races coming up in the future. I’m particularly looking forward to begin training in a few weeks. Although it’s been nice having some down time, I do really well with goals. Bonus: we’ve survived the winter solstice which means it will be lighter in the mornings soon! #winning
Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate — and Happy Chinese Food Eve and Day to those who don’t! I get the best of both worlds — Chinese and Christmas dinner. Score!
