5 Awesome Race Signs [Friday Five]

November 6, 2015
Happy Friday! I’m so excited this week is about over. I’m exhausted. Between having a sick kid, the time change, waking up early to run, and just having too much to do, I. Am. Spent.
Per usual, I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta for the Friday Five. This week’s topic? 5 Best Race Signs. While I enjoy a good chuckle every now and again while I’m racing, let’s face it, I never remember what the signs say. I do remember one, though. It was on the Iron Horse Half Marathon course. Iron Horse was my second half marathon, and my first race with significant hills (which I was completely not prepared for), and the second race I’ve traveled for. So when I happened across this sign:

I nearly keeled over laughing.
1. If it was easy they’d call it your mother.
It was so fitting as it was on the second out and back of a double out and back course, and the hills were unrelenting. I needed it as soon as I saw it. And honestly? The rest of the race went by so quickly.
So that’s the only sign I actually remember from a race. And since I’m so lame and don’t remember more, I’m going to fill in the remaining four spots with ones I’ve spotted on other people’s blogs or on the internet that have made me laugh. Check ’em out:
2. Worst Parade Ever.
We’ve all seen this one. And it’s always funny. Who really wants to watch a bunch of people run by? But we, as runners, totally appreciate the spectators — particularly when they’re our friends and family. (And yes, I’ve seen this one in real life.)
3. Running… It’s Not Just From the Cops Anymore.
Funny on so many levels. I like to think of myself trying to run from my friends who are cops and it terrifies me that they would tackle and shackle me. Game over!
4. Touch here for power!
Okay I lied, I do remember a few more signs than the first one I mentioned I guess. I saw a sign with comic book type thought bubbles — ya know, the ones with squiggly lines like lightning bolts? — and it said “touch here for power.” I totally high-fived it. I don’t think it gave me more power but I pretended that it did.
Kinda like this sign!
And of course, the best for last…
5. Could be worse… you could be doing burpees!
Okay so this one I totally just found surfing the interwebs. But it’s too funny not to share because I love making my clients do burpees, yet I hate doing them myself. Burpees suck!

What’s YOUR favorite race day sign you’ve seen (or created)?
Have you adjusted to the time change yet?!
