Traveling with two kids is considerably exhausting. There’s really no sugar coating it. When we first traveled to AZ with Boo several years ago, our pediatrician told us it takes about a week for them to adjust to the time change (in contrast, an adult takes roughly 24 hours). He suggested if we were staying for less than two weeks, we should keep Boo on Cleveland time. So we did. And it was always kind of a pain in the ass but we dealt with it because we wanted to visit family. Fast forward many years and here we are in a similar situation, but now with two kids.
We’ve been waking up at roughly 4:30/5:00 am every day since we’ve been here. Which, knowing that, my husband and I go to bed early. No big deal, right? Wrong. Every night since we’ve been here, one or both kids have been up in the middle of the night, sometimes multiple times. A couple nights ago poor Boo went to the bathroom and came back to his room only to get lost in his closet. It was so sad! And also so cute. But mostly so sad!
I truly feel like I haven’t slept in a week. And I haven’t. I’m. So. Tired.
But, the upside is that we wake up with the sunrise, which has been phenomenal. It’s been great to get our day started early, go to the playground, go for a run — whatever it is that we’re doing that day. I would say despite being exhausted, we’ve had a very successful trip.
My mom took Boo and me to visit one of my old friends from high school at his mom’s house to catch up and go horseback riding! Boo was a lucky duck and had a blast grooming the horse, feeding him treats, and riding. It was really nice to catch up with one of my old friends while Boo got to test out his cowboy skills.
Newfound love of horses. |
Look, ma! No hands! |
In the afternoon, we went to the pool where Boo picked me a flower. It was so cute. He’s such a sweet kid when he wants to be.

Soon we will be back in the CLE, where I’ve gotten several reports that it’s in the 40s and snowing. Honestly? I’ll take the exhaustion of two kids on a different time zone over 40s and snow. I have no interest in going back to that situation. Such an awesome vaca with family. We are definitely sad to go.
Plus this cuteness…
