15 things that give me FOMO on Instagram

April 29, 2015
Today I want to do something fun. I’m pretty active on Instagram (if you’re not following me, you should be!) and I just love checking out people’s photos and accomplishments. Instagram is such a great way to connect with friends and family, and a great way to post pictures of things you’re proud of. However, Instagram has a like feature which can sometimes be frustrating. Most of the time, friends and family will like pictures that you’ve uploaded, but other times you’re left with few likes. Whilst this isn’t really important, some people don’t enjoy having a small number of likes on their pictures. For example, one of my friends recently had to Buy Instagram Likes – Instant, Real & Cheap. This made her feel much better about her picture. Of course, so many people do purchase likes on Instagram, so people shouldn’t try and compare their likes against another user’s as they might’ve purchased them. If this is something that bothers you however, maybe it’s time to think about using the best instagram growth service that you can find to get your content noticed. People can also purchase followers too by using Socialcaptain, for example. A lot of people seem to wonder “Does Socialcaptain no longer exist?” The answer is that it does exist, but a lot of people don’t recommend that growth service. Perhaps some people should read the review from Platypus Reviews.

Whilst Instagram is a fun app, it is noticable that certain pictures get more likes than others. Whether this is because some account owners choose to buy automatic Instagram likes, or whether there is just a certain time to post, hate missing out on seeing great posts AND I miss the likes on my own. I do enjoy Instagram, but sometimes I feel this little tickle creep over me. I’ve newly identified the tickle as FOMO! What exactly is FOMO, you may be asking? FOMO is otherwise known as the “Fear of Missing Out.” Yes, that’s right. I get the FOMO creep when I see other people’s pictures. Here’s my list of the top 15 things that give me FOMO on Instagram.* (This is not license to use this against me!)

15 things that give me FOMO on Instagram
1. Anything Disney park related — with the exception of the Disney races. For some reason I just have no interest in running Disney. It looks like fun and all, but all the blogs I’ve read and stories I’ve heard about 1. getting into the race in the first place, 2. waking up at 2:00 am for a 4:00 am start time, 3. the fear of being swept off the route, and 4. the lines next to the Disney characters on the route — not for me! Photos of Disney vacations? Total FOMO.

FOMO from my own family vaca in 2013!
2. Mountains — I love mountains. They could be snow covered, they could be lush green. They could be in Alaska, they could be in Costa Rica. I love a good mountain picture and I get FOMO wishing I was there.
3. The beach — I don’t really even like the beach. I’m not a huge fan of sand, and the ocean kinda scares me. BUT, I do love me a nice tropical vacation complete with pina colada or margarita. Therefore, I love the beach.
4. Good food — I’m pretty particular about food photos. If there’s meat in it, I tend to scroll quickly. But post a pic of some yummy vegetables, and I’m all about it. Grilled or picnic food is usually high on my list of FOMO food.

Mmmm. (Source: my friend’s IG feed.** You know who you are, and thank you!)

5. Flat runner pics — Why do I love flat runner pictures? I have no idea. Because I love running maybe? I don’t even like racing all that much. But when I see a bib, fuel, and some kicks… ooooooh, the FOMO!

6. Badass race pics — Again, I don’t even like racing. But I love badass race day photos. And I love them because I’ve never had one!

I mean, come on! Why can’t I look like her?!
7. Trail running — This kinda goes back to the mountains point. I love seeing photos of people trail running but it also makes me wish I were there. And while we’re on this topic, it amazes me how y’all get such awesome runfie (running selfie) shots on the trail. How do you make this happen?!
8. Siberian Husky — I love Siberian huskies. I have always loved them – ever since I was a little girl. It is my dream dog and running partner. And it makes me want one RIGHT NOW when I see huskies while I’m running or photos of them on social media.
9. New (running) shoes — LOVE NEW SHOE DAY! I can’t even handle it. There’s nothing more amazing than a pair of shiny, new, running kicks.

10. Good beer — I don’t drink often, but when I do I’m a beer snob. I love seeing posts of yummy beers but it makes my mouth water.

11. Coffee — Besides food, beer, and awesome race pics, my other favorite photo to see is of coffee… mmmm! If I’m not already enjoying my morning cup of joe, it sends my FOMO skyrocketing. Love me some delicious coffee! (I’m also a coffee snob…)
12. Sunny skies — living in Cleveland leaves much to be desired in terms of weather. And honestly, it feels like this winter is never going to let up. It’s the end of April and I’m still bundling my kids and myself up to go outside. Brrrr! Can’t wait for those beautiful sunny, warm Cleveland summer skies I’ve come to know and love.
13. Trees with lots of green leaves — spring is springing in the CLE but there’s nothing better than an old, giant tree with lots of green leaves. These pictures are lovely.
14. Swimming pics — ah, the essence of summer. I don’t particularly love swimming, but as I mentioned above, I do love the idea of being outside near a body of water, basking in the warm sunshine! Photos of swimming – in the ocean, at a pool, in a pond, in a river! – turn on my FOMO alert and the alarm bells starting clanging.

15. Date nights — oh the fabulous, elusive date night. What I would give just to be able to go out with my husband for a full night, eat and drink ’til my heart sings, and not have to worry about paying for a sitter or waking up early the next morning. Or to be able to go out with friends and have fun and relax! Those days will soon return, but I worry I’ll be too old and decrepit by then to enjoy them. I’ll live vicariously through your photos for now. 🙂 FOMO!!!

That’s a wrap. Hope you enjoyed my superb list of FOMO. Now it’s YOUR TURN! Tell me… what are two things that give you a case of the FOMOs??

xo

*I don’t really have FOMO when scrolling through IG (of Facebook for that matter). This list is all in good fun!

**upon gathering photos for this post, I realize my friend’s IG feed that I used with the veggies on the grill (above) also features mountains and her Siberian husky. Gah!!!! She’s killin’ me with the FOMO!!! And I swear I did NOT base any of the above points on her feed. It just worked out that way. 😉
