Child’s pose in the bathroom? Ick! But it worked.

March 6, 2015
Friday! I never thought I’d see you!
As I mentioned yesterday, this has been a long week. Thursday was crazy. I ran 7 miles on the treadmill, which actually went really well. I couldn’t have been more pleased with my run. Except I was exhausted the rest of the day. I even took a nap Thursday afternoon! Unheard of!
Remember how I told you I was supposed to meet a friend for dinner on Tuesday? Well since that never happened, I somehow convinced my family to go out to dinner on Thursday to make up for it. I effectively carb-loaded with some pretty spicy jambalaya, topped it off with Dulce de Leche cheesecake, and a glass of wine.
In the meantime, however, I was experiencing some intense pain in my back, just next to my shoulder blade. This happens occasionally and when it does it pretty much renders me useless until it passes. Luckily I felt it coming on just as we were leaving the house and I had the foresight to pop two Advil. Unluckily, however, the Advil didn’t do much so I was in pain and discomfort for approximately an hour.
I’m not sure what brings on this pain but it’s really awful. There have been times that it’s gotten so bad during the day that I would call my husband in tears begging him to come home. I’ve recently discovered that child’s pose helps a lot. Of course at dinner this was impossible to do. But I did take advantage of the bathroom stall and hung off the side of the wall to stretch out my shoulder. A reverse child’s pose, if you will. I also did a few forward bends. And they actually worked! (I was the only one in the bathroom — phew! Who’s that crazy lady hanging off the stall next to me?!)
As the pain subsided, I could finally enjoy my meal with my family. After we polished off our entrees (okay, we left about half on all of our plates and then in true family-with-two-kids fashion, forgot our leftovers at the table — d’oh!), we got the dessert menu. My daughter started perusing the pictures and drawings. She came upon this picture…

…and what did she say? Mama!

I must blog too much, people. 😉

The night didn’t end without a couple of silly dinner pictures. I love these people.

Also — cheesecake.
Other than last night’s escapades, I’m taking full advantage of rest day and doing a whole bunch of nothing. Hopefully this back/shoulder issue won’t spring up again any time soon. Saturday will see 15 miles in hopefully favorable conditions, though I’m not holding my breath in NE Ohio.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Tell me… anything fun planned? Have you had Dulce de Leche cheesecake? Because it’s fab.
Cheerio!
