7 Reasons You Should Be Drinking Lemon Water… and 1 Reason You Shouldn’t

January 8, 2015
I’ve been secretly doing an experiment with myself. Well, if I’m telling the whole truth, I dragged my husband into it, too. He’s a good sport.
I have recently become intrigued with this concept of drinking lemon water in the morning. I already drink a 16 oz glass full of water when I wake up anyway, so I thought I’d give the whole lemon thing a whirl.
I’m gonna tell you something. It’s gross. I don’t know if you guys are sweetening your lemon water with sugar or honey, but I’m not. I’m squeezing a lemon into lukewarm water and guzzling it as fast as I can. It tastes like death.
There. I got that off my chest. I can’t sugarcoat this for you. You just have to do it.
Despite the awfulness of it, there are many, many benefits to drinking this lovely beverage first thing in the morning. So far I’m enjoying lots of the rewards.

Here are 7 reasons why I drink lemon water in the morning, and why you should, too!

1. Builds immunities — citrus is loaded with vitamin C. Vitamin C supercharges your immune system. Drink lemon water.

2. Hydration — if you’re one of those people who “sip” water throughout the day, you may not be getting enough. Try a glass of lemon water in the morning. It will get you guzzling in no time.

3. Aids digestion — plenty of hydration keeps us regular. And (surprise!) citrus can help “move things along.” Pair them together, and you’ve got a reason to go!

4. Freshens breath… somehow… — just kidding. It really does! Lemons fight bacteria. Your breath will never smell fresher!

5. Great for your skin — remember our friend vitamin C? Fabulous vitamin for skin. It helps fight age spots, free radicals, and even sun damage.

6. Potentially aids in weight loss — some studies suggest lemon water creates a more alkaline pH level in our bodies, and more alkaline folks have better weight loss results. Other theories say it could just be because when you ingest more water, you feel fuller and are less likely to ingest say, pop. Either way, it’s worth a try if you’re on a weight loss journey.

7. Reduces joint pain and inflammation — Achy? Swollen joints? Try some lemon water. Lemon water can reduce uric acid, which is responsible for inflammation in the joints. Lemon water can be particularly helpful for those with arthritis. You may also want to look at sticking with natural products for your joint pain such as marijuana and/or CBD, these have been said to help vastly with joint issues that cause people a lot of pain. If you are thinking about leaning towards this area, you may want to check out some curaleaf reviews and see where to go from there. Many of the people who have tried to use cannabis-related products for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties have reported that they have been effective in helping them to cope and deal with their individual health concerns. Now, there are many people who associate the cbd feeling with health, wellness and pain relief. In recent years, it has become one of the main alternative options when it comes to self-medication and natural alternatives. Some people have even turned to their medical physician in order to speak with them on whether or not CBD products are right for them. However, they might find that this alternative solution is not for everybody but those who would at least like to try it for themselves can visit this website to see some of the products available.

But here’s 1 reason to not…

1. Lemons are citrus fruits. Citrus fruits contain citric acid. Citric acid is terrible for our teeth. To fight enamel erosion and still reap the benefits of drinking lemon water, be sure to swish with clean water immediately after drinking lemon water. Better yet, grab your phone and book an appointment with Dentist Vineland!

Ready to take the plunge?
One glass of room temperature water (approximately 8 oz) and the juice of half of a lemon. Go!
Happy day!

How was it?
Do you already utilize the lemon water ritual? Have you noticed any changes to your digestion or skin?
