Where did I leave off… Oh yes, I had just run my 5-mile Turkey Trot…
After the race, I got home and took a hot shower, and had to scoot out of town to pick up my brother from the airport. My brother’s visit was a very random, spur of the moment visit, but it was really fun. I hadn’t seen him in a couple years so it was great to reconnect. I picked him up, we chatted on the way home, and then he was ushered into the place where all hell breaks loose with my 5 year old fireball.
That’s right, folks. My big bro got a taste of my little hellyan.
My brother has three girls. I’m not saying they’re perfect angels, but girls are much different than boys. Girls are dainty-ish. They listen for the most part. And they certainly don’t pee out of the bowl or run around in their skivvies. Boys aren’t dainty. They certainly don’t listen. And my house has seen it’s fair share of pee on the toilet seat and 5 year old streaking and shrieking.
To watch my big bro try to encourage Boo to listen and follow directions was kinda funny. But that’s neither here nor there. Back to Thanksgiving.
I baked literally all day Wednesday. I made pecan pie, pumpkin pie, chocolate mousse torte, and prepped the sweet potatoes. The only thing we had to do was put the sweet potatoes in the oven, and gather the troops to head to my aunt’s house. It was pretty chill and easy going.
Pumpkin Pie. Mmm. |
Pecan Pie. Double mmm. |
Chocolate Mousse Torte. Triple mmmmm! Not pictured: cherry and crumbled chocolate topping. |
Once at my aunt’s, the kids got to play together (my cousin has a 3 year old son — a perfect match for Mr. Shenanigans over here. Talking about my son, not my brother. Hehe).
There was some football spectating and analysis by the 3 and 5 yr olds, which was quite humorous, along with some major turkey prep by my cousin’s husband. The meal was delish, we had great fun with the fam, and we even got a few pictures of the weekend!

I left my family feeling full to the brim, and thankful we could be together for the holiday.
When we got back home, I was ready for bed at about 8:00 pm. Somehow I ended up staying up until about 11:30 pm (?!?). I suppose that’s what happens when you haven’t seen your sib in years. Must catch up!
On Friday we just hung out. Dad, bro, me and hubs, Boo and Little Bee. My bro, dad, and I drove around our old stomping grounds. High school, old house, etc. It was a fun trip down memory lane. It was my man’s birthday, so I baked a cake in the afternoon after we got back. (Yay, more dessert!) His buddy from high school came over to visit for a while, and I got to FaceTime with my sweet nieces in AZ. I miss them so much.

For my husband’s birthday dinner, we had chili dogs, tater tots, and cake.
Seriously!? And I wonder why my stomach is in upheaval and I’ve put on about three pounds…
Saturday morning came too fast. I woke up before the sun did to give my brother one last hug before he went to pick up my dad for the airport. I was so sad to see them go, and I can’t wait to see my family again.
Later in the morning we had brunch at my aunt’s again. I love going there for brunch. She always has this awesome spread. Bagels and cream cheese (which there was a debate about — whipped or brick. You decide), some sweet breakfast cakes, fruit salad, juice, coffee… Yum! Just what we needed after our two day gluttonous culinary bonanza. 🙂
This is family calendar material, people! |

I had a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I’m happy my brother was able to join us at the last minute, I’m glad my dad and brother were there for my husband’s birthday celebration, and it’s always so fun seeing my cousins when they’re in town. Looking forward to next year already!
I hope you had a great weekend, too! How was your Thanksgiving? Did you have family-only, or did you also have or attend a Friendsgiving?
