I have a little dreidel: How to play dreidel and a fun night of Chanukah!

December 17, 2014
The first night of Chanukah was a success. Boo helped light the candles and say the prayers. It was too cute. Little Bee got an adorable musical toy and Boo got a build and grow truck, both from my mom. After the ceremonious opening of the gifts, Boo and I played a serious game of dreidel. Unfortunately it dragged on for a while because we both kept landing on nun. Finally Boo landed on gimel, took all the gelt, and the game was over.
Yay for Chanukah!
Want to know how to play dreidel? Here are the basics:
Each player receives an equal amount of gelt (or coins). Before playing, each player puts in a couple coins into the pot. The youngest player starts first and spins the dreidel. Turns are taken in a clockwise fashion. If you land on:
נ (nun): you get “nothing,” and it’s the next person’s turn
ג (gimel): you win all the gelt in the pot, and the game is over
ה (hey): you take half of the gelt in the pot
ש (shin): uh oh — give two of your coins back!
See? Easy peasy. Now go test your skillz…
Happy Chanukah!
