Fitness Friday: Upala K.

October 10, 2014
Happy Friday! This is the last official post before my half marathon this weekend. I’ll have a recap for you next week. Hopefully the weather holds out and I don’t get dumped on for 13.1 miles!
Today I’m featuring a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador for the Fitness Friday series. Her name is Upala. She’s an online fitness and nutrition coach, and a new mama, and she’s got great tips to share. Be sure to check out her blog at Pretty in Pink Fitness and tell her I sent you.

What is your favorite fitness day/activity?

I am currently doing the T25 program. I love it because it’s
only 25 min of intense whole body workouts. With a 6 month old baby shorts
workouts are the best. On my rest days I like to do yoga or pilates (low
intensity workouts).
What is your favorite fitness routine?

I love
to workout the lower body. My baby falls asleep when we hold her and do squats. I also like burpees because it works the entire body.

Why do you choose to stay fit?

I choose to stay fit because I want to grow old and be around
for my family. I also like being an example for my loved ones around me. When I
exercise and eat clean I feel healthier. I don’t like eating junk food anymore
because I feel sick and heavy afterwards.

Aside from physical exercise, what other ways
do you incorporate healthy choices into your life?

I am a strong believer in eating clean. I stick to protein,
good carbs, vegetables, fruits and good fats everyday. I allow myself to have 1-2
cheat meals a week. I am slowly trying to convince my parents to eat clean.

How have you dealt with any setbacks that have prevented you from working out, staying in
shape, or eating healthily?

Thankfully I have not had any setbacks since I have started
my fitness and nutrition journey about 4 years ago.

What advice do you have for someone just
beginning their journey into healthy living and/or exercising?

My advice is to start slow. It takes time to change your
nutrition. It’s not a diet, it’s a life style change. With exercise, start with
low intensity moves then gradually start raising the intensity. Don’t overdo it
with the exercise because if you get an injury, you will have to start all over
again.

Have a fabulous weekend, friends! I’ll catch you on the flip side.
