I’ve had a heck of a week, folks. For some unknown reason, Little Bee has been waking up at night crying out. I attribute this problem to… “baby.” There have been two particularly bad nights. One time she woke up screaming and crying at 5:30 am and decided not to go back to bed. My saint of a husband took one for the team and just stayed up with her. Last night she woke up at 8:15 pm, stayed up until 11 pm, then woke up again at 4:00 am. I took one for the team this time and “slept” on her floor for about 45 minutes until I couldn’t take it anymore and snuck out and back to my own [warm] bed.
Ugh.
This afternoon I took a nasty spill up the stairs in our back hallway. They have the metal ends, too. It was horrific. My left shin is all sorts of distorted. I’m swollen, in major pain, and I spent at least 45 minutes sobbing uncontrollably. Luckily my 5 year old was there to comfort me, get me ice, find my cell phone, and make me feel like I was the 5 year old being babied. Ah, the good life… ? Thank goodness for my Boo. He sure knows how to make a mommy feel better!
This happened. |
And now it looks like this. |
My mama is coming into town and we are busy preparing for the second of the holiest days — Yom Kippur. She will be making her homemade chicken soup (can’t. wait.), and I’ll be baking a nice round challah. Wish me luck.
Before all of this takes place, however, I have a special guest post for you from Ariana F! Ariana is a blogger at Happylife Healthylife and she is here to share her knowledge and experience with us as part of my Fitness Friday series. Love what she has to say, love her outlook. Check out her interview below!

What is your favorite fitness day/activity?
I’d have to say long runs are my favourite. They give me a
chance to get lost in my thoughts and explore my city, yet still require mental
focus and willpower.
What is your favorite fitness routine?
I don’t necessarily know if I have a favourite – I like
working with heavy weights and low reps because I love how strong it makes me
feel, but I also like performing higher reps with lighter weights for full body
workouts because it makes me sweat and keeps that heart rate up! Lately I’ve
been throwing 10 sets of 10 squats (goblet or back squat) into the mix and I
really enjoy it. It’s all about intensity for me!Why do you choose to stay fit?
There are so many reasons, but the main one is that it makes
me feel good! I feel so accomplished after setting and achieving fitness goals,
I love how refreshed I feel after an intense workout or a long run, and I’ve
transformed my body for the better by weight training. I also love how I’ve
inspired others in my life to begin adopting healthy eating habits and
exercising. I try to be a good example for my family, friends, and personal
training clients.Aside from physical exercise, what other ways
do you incorporate healthy choices into your life?
I make a solid effort to eat food that makes me feel good –
lots of seasonal fruit and veggies, lean protein, and healthy fats. I do my
best to prepare as much of the food I eat as possible. If I have a craving for
something that might not be so good for me, I often try to make a lightened up
version at home.I also stay as active as possible outside my
scheduled exercise time; I walk or bike ride almost everywhere I go, I take the
stairs wherever possible, and when I plan outings with my friends I try to
involve some sort of physical activity. I’m really fortunate in that most of my
friends, my family, and my boyfriend are fairly active. How have you dealt with any setbacks that have prevented you from working out, staying in
shape, or eating healthily?
So far I haven’t had anything that’s fully prevented me from
exercising or eating well. *Knock on wood!* I’ve been dealing with iliotibial
band syndrome since last August which has really thrown a wrench in my running
plans, however I’ve still completed all of the races I set out to this year.
It’s been difficult having to hold back, go slower, and push through the pain
during races, but having other activities I enjoy such as weight training and
cycling have helped a lot.I think it’s important to develop hobbies beyond
just exercising; if you do sustain an injury that forces you to stop all
activity, it can be really tough to deal with if you don’t have something else
to occupy your time. What advice do you have for someone just
beginning their journey into healthy living and/or exercising?Set measurable goals and find a way to work towards them that
works best for YOU. Everybody and every body is different, and what works for
one may not work for another. I often hear people talk about the
“best” way to lose weight or the “best” way to improve your
running pace. In my opinion, the best way is the way that fits your life,
allows you to stick to the plan, and is one that you enjoy.
