10 Reasons I Like Training — and Training Hard

October 2, 2014
This week’s training has been exhausting to me for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’m in the final stretch and really pushing it this week. Race day will be here soon, which is bittersweet. I’m really looking forward to this particular race. More so for the company and the scenery than for the actual run itself. But it turns out I really like training! Who knew. And for whoever reads this that isn’t a runner and has heard about being addicted to exercise, and then totally turning your nose up at that statement? Yeah, well it’s all true. I started running in 2010, and I haven’t stopped. And now that I do it at least five days a week, I’m hooked.
Yep. (therunningadvisor.com)
Here are 10 reasons I like training — and training hard:

1. It gives me a nice schedule to follow.

2. Training forces me to eat really well.

3. And training allows me to eat a lot more than I normally would (should? could?).

4. I like the idea of having a big “to-do” at the end of a vigorous training schedule (i.e. an awesome race).

5. Track workouts are super fun, and I don’t think I would do them without being in training.

6. It gives me something to work for — speed, distance, etc.

7. It’s fun to build relationships and trade war stories and sob stories on the road. Great bonding moments.

8. It makes me feel like a badass.

9. After a good training run I think to myself, “I could do 26.2…”

10. I like setting a good example for the beautiful souls in my life.

Double yep! (danscartoons.com)
So what comes after my fall half marathon? If I’m being honest, not a whole lot for the remainder of the year. I’m not a big fan of cold weather running, so I’ll likely keep some fitness on the treadmill. I won’t be training for anything aggressively over the winter. I would like to run a turkey trot again this year. 2015 may bring some more long distance events. The verdict is still out on that one.
Totally not me. But totally my friend! (therunningadvisor.com)
But for now, I’m going to enjoy the rest of my training. I’m looking forward to taking some time off of following a tight schedule. It’s great and I love it, but it does get really tiring. Plus I’m sure my husband would like to get to the gym again some time soon. It’s only fair — I guess… 🙂
Have a great day, friendlies!
