Rosh Hashanah Meal Recap!

September 25, 2014
Rosh Hashanah dinner was crazy. I was literally on my feet cooking all day. After running four miles, that’s bananas!

IU represent! 4 miles in the books.

My challah was a hot topic on Facebook. The round raisin challah is among the most stressful challahs for me. I make a regular 3 or 4-strand braided challah on a weekly basis, but have only tackled the round challah twice before (last year at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur). Thankfully I pulled it off. But before the official braiding stress-fest began, I posted this pic to Facebook:
Just looking at it makes me panic. And to think — I get to do it all over again next week. At least I have one under my belt this season.
Here’s how it turned out:
And this happened while I was cooking (how do dads always fall asleep so easily? It doesn’t matter where or when. One of the great mysteries of life?):

My matzah ball soup was a total disaster. Note to self: do not rely solely on chicken broth. It’s disgusting. The balls themselves were quite amazing. The broth, notsomuch. Lesson learned. Kugel, however, turned out great. Can’t wait for leftovers in the morning. I had a dutch apple pie all ready for dessert but we all ate so much that we didn’t even cut into it. The humanity! More for me this weekend. 🙂

L’shana Tovah, friends. Happy New Year!
