I remember when running 3 miles was a really big deal. Two summers ago, I would run 3 miles and head to the zoo with some friends and kids. Walking around all morning was killer after a 3-miler. This morning I ran 3.2 miles, went to the zoo, and thought nothing of it. It’s amazing what proper training and time spent running will do.
I used to be wiped out from 5 mile runs, too. Not anymore. Now it’s the 8+ miles that put me on my butt for most of the afternoon.
Incredible.
So yeah, we went to the zoo today! I took Little Bee and Boo. We met up with some friends and had a grand time. It was Little Bee’s first trip, and although she missed her morning nap and desperately needs to get some shuteye this afternoon (which, from the sounds coming from the monitor, make it seem unlikely at this point), she did great! Little Bee’s favorites were the elephants and the flamingoes. Boo’s favorites were the tortoise and the elephants (despite all of his pleadings to see the cheetahs — who were just lounging around when we went to see them. Booooooor-ing!). All in all, it was really fun. I can’t wait to take them back again.

What else has been going on today? Not much. It was cool and cloudy this morning but the sunshine is finally peeking out and it is shaping up to be a very nice day. It could stand to be a bit warmer because it is summer after all, but after all the rain we’ve had, I’ll take it.
Half marathon training is going well. I’m looking forward to investing in a… wait for it… GPS WATCH! Watch out! Yes, that’s right, folks. I’ve been training for a 10-miler and a half marathon, and now my second half marathon with dinky old MapMyRun. That means every time I go out for a run, I basically need to know where I’m going beforehand to gauge my mileage — or the other alternative is trying to fumble with my phone while running. Once I am the proud owner of a GPS watch, I’ll be in the big leagues. Just a quick glance at the wrist, ba-da-bing ba-da-boom. Totes magoats. Can’t. Wait.
Well, I’ve got some real-world stuff to do today so I better get going. Have a beautiful day, friends. 🙂
