Training Update, Boston, and For Two Fitness Giveaway

April 22, 2014
Goooooood morning, lovelies! I hope you’re having a swell day so far. Unfortunately our awesome Cleveland weather has turned upside down, and it’s gray and cloudy again, with temperatures dropping throughout the day. I think we will top out at about 58˚ today, and then a high of 47˚ tomorrow. Boo! Thankfully the last several days have been beautiful, so hopefully the dream of consistent warmth will carry me through the next week or so.
Training has been going well. I ran a glorious 10 miles on Sunday with a new friend and an old friend, on a path I’ve never run on before. It was really fun. The first mile was essentially a 40˚ climb up a hill. Very tough but it felt great. The remainder of the course was relatively flat, with a few very minor hills here and there. We saw black, gray and brown squirrels, as well as a couple deer (eek!). The weather was perfect, perhaps a tad chilly, but very nice. Out of the three of us, one was only scheduled to run 8 miles, so we dropped her off at her car, and the two of us ran back up the mile-long hill (the one that wasn’t so bad at the beginning of the run but turns out is killer after 8 miles) and then back down to add in two additional miles.
The great news is that I successfully carb-loaded the night before and I didn’t need to take in any fuel, very little water, and I didn’t get a cramp this time! It was amazing. My hydration belt felt much less awkward on this run as well. In addition, my pace was 30 seconds per mile faster than my recent race pace! Overall, I really felt great. So great, in fact, that I didn’t really recognize I had run 10 miles and I couldn’t figure out for the rest of the day why I felt so tired. 😉
The Cleveland Marathon is coming up quickly. Less than a month and I will be running my first half marathon. I’m very excited. Much less nervous now that I know I can run for long distances without collapsing. Though I did just check out the course maps and my stomach started doing flip-flops, so perhaps I’m not quite as confident as previously thought. 😉 I’m looking forward to the expo, to meet some of my virtual “friends” in person. There will be a lot of vendors, and a lot of things to see, learn, and buy. I’m very much looking forward to it.
Speaking of long distances and marathons, did you see the Boston Marathon yesterday!? Shalane Flanagan, though she didn’t win, did a superb job crushing both personal and course records. And she has already said she will be back next year. Huge congratulations to Meb Keflezighi for becoming the first American to win the Boston Marathon since 1983! What a great race this year. Amazing job by everyone. A couple of my friends ran as well, and did completely amazing. I’m so happy for them — Boston is a huge accomplishment.
Don’t forget about the For Two Fitness Anniversary Giveaway! Enter to win prenatal and postpartum workout DVDs, Kind Bars, Maclaren Beginnings care products, GNC prenatal vitamins, Happy Family Brands foods and snacks, For Two Fitness apparel, Baby K’tan baby carrier, and Zensah compression sleeves!! Seriously, don’t miss this opportunity.
That’s my story for the day, folks. Hope you’re having a grand day. And if you’re not, go for a run or grab yourself a cup of coffee. Happy Tuesday!
