I’m no physical therapist but…

March 2, 2014
This has been a good week for a setback week. My plantar fasciitis has been flaring up, and frankly, I’m just tired.
This morning I was planning on 6+ miles but yesterday my arch was bothering me, and then this morning I just decided I wanted a day off. Next week and the following week will be tough. The week after is race week, which I will cut back mileage a bit in preparation for my travels and racing.
I don’t have any interest in going to a PT for my arch so I’m taking matters into my own hands. Along with my compression socks, I’ve been using my baseball, as well as some yoga toe work. Today my husband and I will conquer taping at home. I actually taped myself this morning but I think I did it wrong, so I will have to find another technique. It turns out there are a bunch of different ways to tape for plantar fasciitis. Or are there? I’m not sure. I’m new at this stuff. When I was injured in high school, I went to see Bitz, the athletic trainer. He made me stick my legs in an ice bath. If I needed taping, he would do it for me.
Here’s my first attempt at self-taping:

Not too shabby, eh? I’m no pro, to say the least, but it wasn’t half bad! And my toenail only looks black because I recently took off some polish. It’s not actually black from running — at least not yet!
I’m really hoping this plantar problem doesn’t become a bigger issue than it is. I think a few days off should do it. I would love to hear if anyone has any tips or tried-and-true methods for taping. I’ll be icing today as well, I’m sure.
In other news, the temperature has plummeted AGAIN today! This winter is AWESOME!
I’m having a good time… not…
Hoping the temps warm up ASAP. I’ve got a race in three weeks and I hate the cold!
Have a great Sunday!!
Have you suffered from plantar fasciitis?
What taping method have you used?
