Fridays are kinda hectic for me. Sometimes I feel like Ray Liotta in that crazy coked up paranoid gun and meatball scene from the 1990 mobster flick Goodfellas. Except replace coke with coffee, paranoia from helicopters to paranoia from baby waking up from nap, and meatballs with challah. Did you catch all that? If you don’t recall this scene, I’ve done you a courtesy and found you a clip. If you’re hopped up on caffeine and can’t sit through the entire scene, start at approximately 3:10.
I basically run back and forth between running in the morning, dropping Boo off at preschool, getting Little Bee in bed for a nap, showering, making the challah dough (which takes about 40 minutes to prepare, then rests for two hours), and then getting Little Bee out of bed.
Total. Chaos.
And while I’m running back and forth doing all of these things, I’m totally spastic because I’ve had three cups of coffee (it’s half caf, mind you), and I’m sweating. It’s total nonsense.
HOWEVER. The challah recipe I have is delicious. I’m just happy I stumbled upon it at a friend’s house a couple of years ago and have since perfected it. I thought I screwed up yesterday’s dough because I used a cup of stone ground whole wheat flour, but it actually turned out really yummy!
Yesterday we added guests to our usual Shabbat dinner, so it was double the paranoid sweaty meatballs. After all of the usual Friday morning nuttiness, I took on making two quiches, setting the table, and getting everything set for our friends. Sweating, pacing, cooking.
See? What did I tell ya? Ray Liotta.
It was a really fun dinner, though, so it was totally worth all of the Ray Liotta-ness throughout the day. I kinda can’t wait to do that again. I’ll wait at least a week, though.
Hope you guys had an awesome Friday. Happy weekend!!!
