The “Up” Side of Being Sick

April 29, 2010
My poor little Bug is sick. I feel so awful. He is so miserable. I’m doing everything I can to try to make him feel better, and I think for the most part it’s working. The problem is, I’ve been focusing so much on him that I neglected to think that I could get sick, too! For some reason I just assumed since I was his mommy, I was immune to his cold. What a sham!
It turns out moms do get sick, and I’m not a huge fan of that. I hate being sick. I’ve spent the last year and a half avoiding sick people like they had the plague. Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I did not want to risk anything, especially swine flu!
Now here I am, a mom to a seven month old, and we’re both sick. At least I started my strict regimen of Vitamin C, Echinacea and Cold Eeze. I can’t do much for him except make sure he’s hydrated and getting plenty of Vitamin C through his food.
At least Bug is building his immune system and teaching it to fight off intruding viruses and bacteria. It might suck for us now, but in the long run I’m glad his body has the opportunity to build antibodies now to help him in the future.
The other “up” side? He’s so cute when he sleeps in the middle of my bed with my fleece blanket. I just want to cuddle and squish him. But I won’t. He needs his sleep.
Rest well, Bug. Get better soon.
