Facebook Etiquette Part Two

April 10, 2010
In addition to my previous post regarding Facebook etiquette…
Please don’t ask personal questions on walls or status updates. I’m much more comfortable discussing potentially private matters via: text, PIN, bb messenger, email, Facebook mail or on the phone.
My grandparents would roll over in their graves if they knew how far technology has come… I digress.
When someone is being pensive or thoughtful via status updates, maybe it’s better to leave well enough alone. If I said, “Rachel is sad,” maybe I just needed to get it out there and vent. So instead of asking why, maybe say something like “cheer up” or “hope everything’s okay!” or something similar. What if I just found out some horrible, earth-shattering news, but I just wasn’t ready to share it yet? If you’re a close friend or relative the chances of you finding out about it are pretty high. If you’re not a close friend or relative, maybe I just don’t want to share it with you at all.
I guess I should probably just take matters into my own hands. Maybe I’ll revert to keeping my private life private. Then I won’t have to be frustrated that no one respects personal boundaries on Facebook.
