Playgroups and Such

March 17, 2010
I know I blog a lot about being a mom and my baby, but it’s 98% of my day, so I’ve got a lot to reflect upon.
I’ve found it both surprisingly difficult and quite easy to find playgroups and other mommy friends. The winter made it extremely difficult. I know I’ve already mentioned it in several other posts, but the winter in Cleveland — aside from the holidays — is just damn depressing. There is absolutely nothing good about it. As a snow lover and advocate, the gray and gloom could just go away and no one would complain. I digress.
Winter, as a new mom, sucked.
But now that it’s nice out, I’ve been extremely proactive in trying to find new friends. Not that my old friends are bad or anything. Things between us are just… well… different. They can still go out until all hours of the evening, and they can easily go out to dinner and not be home for bedtime (at 7:00). They also don’t need to plan their days around naptime. They can do things that unfortunately my husband and I no longer have the luxury to do.
The internet has become the easiest tool in finding new friends. I haven’t met anyone in person yet but it turns out that there is an abundance of new and veteran moms out there looking for friends for their children and other women they can relate to. I’m really looking forward to meeting some of these ladies. Even if nothing fantastic comes out of it for me, at least Little Man will get to meet some other babies and children. And who knows, he may end up being friends with some of these kids for a long, long time.
I look forward to expanding my friendship horizon. I look forward to forging ahead and getting out and being active. I look forward to meeting new people and having someone, other than my husband, to talk to. I look forward to the wisdom some of these veteran moms are sure to impart upon me so that I may be a great mom.
But most of all, I look forward to new adventures with my son.

“From there to here,
From here to there,
Funny things are everywhere.”
