I went to the dentist this morning. I know I should go a lot more frequently but I hadn’t taken the time to search Dentist Wagga Wagga on Google despite moving here nearly a year ago. Dental hygiene is important guys, so make sure you are cleaning your teeth twice a day and making regular visits to the dentist. You should also know how to find an emergency dentist in case you ever chip a tooth or have a really bad toothache or something. Thankfully, I’ve always been lucky with my teeth and never really needed any significant work doing or experienced any trauma to my teeth which is great. I can’t say the same for my husband though! He’s always having problems with his teeth and he’s even considering getting an aligner or something for his teeth. He wants something he can do at home rather than having to go to a dentist all the time. Some of the at-home solutions, similar to 理想 の 歯並び, look pretty promising and are affordable too! Anyway, now that’s out of the way, the dental assistant told me she loved my hair and that it was so beautiful. “Thank you,” I replied. It wasn’t the experience I was expecting from that office. I’d expect to hear about a referral program (like the ones on https://www.opencare.com/blog/dentist-referral-programs/), not about my hair, but still. She then went on to say how over the years she had less and less patience for long hair. This got me thinking… Ever since Monster Pocket was born, my husband has joked with me that I should get the “mom cut.”
If you know me personally, you know that I have an insane amount of long, curly hair. Sure, it’s lost some of its length since high school, but most would still consider it long. When I get a haircut, I barely have it trimmed. Just enough to keep it healthy, really. So when my husband pokes fun and talks about the “mom cut,” I just laugh back and tell him not to be ridiculous. We both know it’s never going to happen.
But then I met this dental assistant who claims she had long hair at one time…
So what exactly is this “mom cut”? Is it some sort of rite of passage to have your hair hacked off when you become a mom? Is it because moms are busy and can’t “keep up” with long hair? What if I don’t want the famed “mom cut”? Do I have to get it? I don’t want to make myself look… old! I mean no offense to my mom, mother-in-law or my aunts, of course.
If I were to seriously consider this style, my hair would be nothing short of a 1973-style afro. I just don’t think I’m ready for that type of commitment. In all honesty, I truly believe that chopping my hair will cause more of a styling issue for me than I already have. Now all I do is hop out of the shower and swoop my hair up in a pony-tail and I’m done with it. An afro would require some serious styling. We’re talking gel or hairspray, a pick, probably a blow-dryer, and possibly even a brush. Too much for someone who only owns a wide toothed comb and some cheap gel.
I think I’ll stick with the high school cut for now. It makes me look younger. I’m married, have a baby and am almost 30, and I still get carded for a glass of wine in a restaurant. I’m already struggling with this “that happened 12 years ago?!” thing that keeps happening to me. I’d like to hang on to my youth for a little while longer.
Sorry dental assistant — no “mom cut” for me!
